Install UMAX Astra 3600 Scanner on Windows 7
Long time no blogging...
here I come again, with good news...
Many in forums asking help about driver installation for scanner UMAX ASTRA 3600, an old series of scanner manufactured by UMAX that does not compatible with Windows 7 (yet no idea with Windows 8), as I did, I could not use it and became a trash one at my office. I have got another one, EPSON L200 PRINTER & SCANNER WITH PHOTOCOPIER, so I searched on the web trying to find out the true solution for this sh*t. Then I realize, why shouldn't I try harder?! Then... BANG!!! I've got it!!! I have made it works as on earlier version of Windows!
How could I get no awareness of the very easiest way to do it?! Haha! Guess in my mind went without eager to find out further deeper! Ok, let's cut the crap!!!
Usually, we must install the driver in the first place before using the unit or connect it to the computer, and then, VOILA!!! Windows 7 doesn't compatible with the driver we've tried to install. What a sh*t for more!!! So, I went for an experiment by myself, what if I connect it in the first place, then see what would appear...
Still...no workout! But, the fact, it's already inside (unit driver) the computer tho' it can't be used. So, what we must do is...
1) Connect the device (scanner), you'll find a Windows notification that the device driver is not successfully installed, but actually is detected
2) Click the Start, open Devices and Printers
3) Point on the troublesome icon of hardware drive, right-click... (click on images to view larger)
4) Update the driver
5) Search manually the driver inside your computer hard disk -choose it!
8) Let Windows 7 do the rest of it!
9) Voila!!! The sh*t got rid!!!
If I knew, it's that easy... this unit wouldn't become trash at my office, thanks to God I don't need to purchase a newer one anymore!!!
If you, Guest, don't have the official driver of this scanner, then you download its driver on the manufacturer's website, and you can choose the standard/default driver -which is intended for Windows XP or earlier, that's ok since mine is also built for Windows XP as well, but I've found out the way to be compatible with Windows 7 - don't you ever ask for how with Windows 8, 'coz I haven't even tried it..!!! Maybe you can try the same method as which works on Windows 7 I've explained above.
Afterward, you can choose to try to operate the function of this scanner with any graphic software; my example is using Adobe Photoshop, by the dropdown menu File, you must choose WIA menu, not the direct scanner driver (TWAIN)...since it still -somehow doesn't compatible with UMAX VISTASCAN 3600, then... sure you can do the rest of configuration for the scan result within Photoshop.
Some or many software that doesn't -still, compatible with the scanner driver, you must use the built-in program/application inside its own machine (within the list of Devices and Printers).
Double-click the icon Scanner, then it will appear in the windows menu application... also, sure you can do the rest! By default -when using this built-in application, the scanned result (file) is located on Libraries --> Documents --should you need to search for it and move/copy/relocate it to another hard disk location/directory.

*PS: if this method couldn't make it, then you need to reinstall the OS (Win7/8) since your OS is having trouble inside (malware, virus, etc.).

what driver that you used? is it pointing device?
It doesn't work for windows 8. give me a solution .
#1: Standard USB Scanner (from UMAX). Other Devices.
#2: I still use 7 Pro (that costed pretty hi for me), so got no plan to move on 8; therefore, i have no idea about working on it for Windows 8. Sorry can't help.

@Vignesh: u should download the driver at first, here I'm just explaining how-to use the driver so that it works since generally known that the driver only available for earlier version of Windows 7, 8 or Vista - just XP or earlier

on that pictures drivers included touchpad\Elantech etc. Such drivers are not present my system. Before installation photoshop software is necessary or not.Presently my scanner not connected. Plz. help me
sorry just checked in... it won't be matter either to install before or after the photoshop installation, any of it just works, however, for using in photoshop (e.g. already installed) better to restart the photoshop or close the photoshop active window at first when we want to install the scanner driver. In case photoshop can't directly detect the driver while photoshop is active (running) simultaneously with installing the scanner driver. I think any other image processing software can handle the scanner if only taking the scanned objects (e.g. IrfanView, ACDSee, XnView, etc). So at last, U don't have to have a Photoshop if U just want to scan an object.
..and any other drivers, just focus on the UMAX Astra3600 driver, don't be distracted by those others, no correlation with UMAX

To all, who are browsing the blog regarding Umax Astra 3600, This technique works only on 32 bit operating systems (Even on Win 10, It's working). But about 64 bit OS, your device is still a garbage.

For Windows 10?
as earlier comment from Ankur Sengar, its driver isn't designed for x64 (64 bit) version of Windows, if your Win 10 is the x86 (32bit) then you can still make it useful, however Windows 10 in major is released on 64bit so that this UMAX scanner can't be used. But... check your version of Win 10 then you can see whether you have 32bit (you can use your UMAX) otherwise, 64bit, you need to use another scanner.
